Enterprise architecture and architecture governance

Using AI where it genuinely helps: testing the business case, governing agents at the speed they are built, and keeping people accountable where the consequences are real.
Where AI can genuinely help today, and where it cannot yet. We look at the processes, data, skills and governance an AI deployment would depend on, and find the judgement line: the points in each process where a named human must own the output.
Readiness is as much about people as technology. Skills decay when people stop doing the work they are asked to check, so we look at that too.
An independent challenge to the business case before you commit. Is the efficiency claim tested or assumed, and what is it being compared against? Does it budget for verification, skills and process redesign?
We also model the scenario most business cases skip: the one where AI volume means you need more people, not fewer, at the points only people can handle.
Governance that works at the speed agents are built: guardrails embedded where creation happens, a gateway for policy, authorisation and audit, entitlements applied when information is retrieved, and escalation paths that give people the means to exercise their accountability.
Our reference architecture for consequential AI sets out the pattern.
We are firmly pro-technology, and AI can be genuinely useful. Pragmatic AI means being honest about what it can and cannot do, putting it where it absorbs complexity rather than adding to it, and designing for the people who remain accountable for what it produces.

Keynote on why AI's promised efficiency is a fallacy: the technology is brute-forced and expensive, and the human oversight that makes it safe is what automation erodes.
AI is sold as an efficiency play. But the tech is brute-forced and expensive, the language we use about it is misleading, and the human oversight we rely on to make it safe is the thing automation erodes
October 2026 Dynamic ArchitectureA pragmatic, opinionated reference architecture for deploying generative and agentic AI where there are serious consequences from getting it wrong.
October 2026 AI SleepwalkingAdopting AI aggressively may need more people, not fewer, or enshittification becomes a serious risk.
